The Dance of Ganesha

Namaste Ambient Chill people,

I just want to let you know that I've posted a new mix online that is mostly Chill with some Ambient that I think some of you may enjoy. This one has a definite Eastern feel to it. All of the tracks have some type of Indian instrumentation on them. Either Tablas or Sitars or (something new for me) Vocals. This is my second mix of this type and I have started both off with a Mantra or Sacred Chant. The idea being to create a sacred space prior to the presentation. The first mix "The Dance of Shiva" has been well received (by my standards) and I think it has a nice flow to it. There are a lot of great artists being presented in a way that they would hopefully appreciate.

The new mix is called "The Dance of Ganesha" and is a slight departure. I have called it the Overcoming Obstacle mix, which seems appropriate for a mix dedicated to Lord Ganesh. Without getting too academic about it. The idea was to create a Sacred space, then enchant the listener with some beautiful music, to get them to relax and stop actively listening. Then to drift from that space, taking it in a direction representing unease or discord and then bringing it back into what is hopefully a beautiful collection of songs with some wonderful musical performances that have an uplifting feel to them. Basically I am trying to represent the idea of overcoming obstacles using the medium of the dj set.

I think this one would be good background music for those that are thinking something out. Exploring the possibilities, examining worst case scenarios and ultimately following through to a successful conclusion. I know I'm over-thinking this stuff, but at the moment I have a lot of time on my hands and the music just seemed to form itself into this set. Once I had decided on the name "The Dance of Ganesha" I realised that I just needed to change the placement of a couple of tracks and that it could actually musically represent the overcoming obstacles idea quite nicely. I think it is a pleasant listen and that it would make for good background music for a day outside or for when you are reading or working on the computer or something.

My personal fantasy is to picture artists listening to the music and it possibly helping them to find inspiration and provide energy for them to work on their project. While not calling attention to itself and becoming a distraction to the creative process. I'd imagine everyone that listens to it will get something different out of it, because that seems to be the way it works with music. Everyone makes their own personal connection with it and they imbue it with their own personal meaning. Which is why I prefer to just announce a mix and try to not place ideas into peoples minds about what to expect. However since this one has such a specific intent, I thought I'd try something different and share what it is that I am trying to accomplish with this mix. That's all, except to say I had fun recording it and I hope you enjoy hearing it.

I've been dreaming of the ultimate chill party for many years and I am finally in a position to bring that dream (or a version of it) to life. Of course I can't do this all alone, so I've enlisted the help of Hendrik/Jaluka (the generous ringmaster of the Church of Bass) and recent Seattle transplant Adrian/Eckoe. Their excitement and passion for a similar dream gives me hope that this pipedream has actual validity beyond my skull. Together, we are shaping one tiny section of the universe into our version of chillout bliss. It's incredibly exciting to be working on a project that has lived in my head for so long and I can't wait to share it with you and the other chill-o-philes that I have yet to meet. Celebrate chillout the way it was meant to be enjoyed - comfortably lounging in a bubble of pristine audio, with a small group of fellow chill aficionados. We're taking the chill room and putting it in it's proper place - front and center.

To keep this event comfortable and intimate, only 100 tickets will be made available. Tickets are presale only and will not be available at the door. No ticket, no entry. Music runs 9:20pm to 6:30am, so arrive early and be prepared to sink in for the whole night and melt away to the finest chillout the Northwest has to offer. The doors will close at 1am and it will be exit only after that, so please plan on an early arrival. This guided voyage through time and (inner)space waits for no one.

Seattle's Gel-Sol is producer/musician Andrew Reichel, whose dichotomous sound spans from ambient soundscapes to complex, rhythmic electronica, creating a dynamic psychedelic universe with heavy emphasis on improvisation. In 2004, Gel-Sol released the critically-acclaimed Gel-Sol 1104 (aka Music Made For You...And By You, I Mean Me.) on the UK's cult ambient label Em:t Records. His follow-up album, Unifactor, continued the tradition of his unique, amorphous sound collages. A joint release between Psychonavigation and Canadian label Upstairs Recordings, his new album entitled "IZ," in his own words "Is an all-ambient adventure I wrote for my niece Izabella, who was born early last year." The album's music showcases Gel-sol's trademark melodic edge combined with sweeping synth pads reminiscent of '90s ambient albums from the likes of Pete Namlook and Global Communication.

EQlateral is a fascinating juxtaposition of world-class classical musicianship, electronica and avante garde artistry. Sonantes is a Sao Paulo based musical collective featuring the vocal talents of CéU in collaboration with Pupillo and Dengue, members of the Brazilian group Nação Zumbi, as well as Rica Amabis from Instituto and Gui Amabis. Their unique debut release is a collection of atmospheric songs written for imaginary films and features guest stars Siba, Lucio Maia, Beto Villares, Apollo 9 and others. This special "labor of love" project brought together some of the most exciting artists from Sao Paulo's vital music scene in a creative atmosphere where they could combine Brazilian, African, Cuban and electronic influences to create a unique collection of atmospheric songs that sound like they were written for a series of imaginary films.

After rediscovering Last.fm, I've been using the service non-stop for days. Feeling inspired by the spirit of musical discovery, I uploaded a few of my own tracks to contribute to the music pool. It's about time these tracks were released from the dark cage that is my hard drive and Last.fm seems like the best way to share with the world.

New, Unplayed Chillout Music CDS cheap as a whole LOT

Folks,

I have a collection of new compact discs for sale as a single lot. There are 77 discs here, all of them new and unplayed. Most of them came shrink-wrapped from the distributor, though some did not. I'm getting rid of the entire collection as a single lot for $250, that's about $3 per disc, way way under wholesale price. Sold individually the discs themselves would retail for three to four times as much. Check out the list. If interested, drop me a line. I cannot entertain requests for individual CD sales.
